AI competency coach

Can AI help me study for the BCBA exam or the RBT competency assessment?

Yes — for explaining concepts, checking your own reasoning and deciding what to study next. The Operation Optimize coach is an AI study assistant built around the BCBA Test Content Outline and the RBT task areas. Ask it a question in your own words, or paste an answer you wrote, and it responds to what you actually said: what was right, what was missing and one follow-up question to test yourself. It is deliberately limited to study support — it will not write behavior plans, treatment goals or clinical recommendations, and it never replaces your supervisor. You get one free answer signed out and three in total with a free account; unlimited coaching is a $9 per month or $79 per year add-on.

Ask the coach

Coaching is study support only. It is not supervision or clinical direction, it never writes behavior plans, and it never reproduces exam content. Check anything official against the BACB handbook.

How it is calculated

Ask anything in the box below — a concept you keep mixing up, a term you want in plain language, or an explanation you wrote that you want checked.

On the BCBA task list checklist, the coach also sees how you rated that domain, so 'what should I study first?' gets an answer ranked against your own gaps.

On the RBT practice scenarios tool, the coach reads the answer you wrote to a scenario and names what a supervisor would still expect to hear.

Supervisors can switch the task list to supervision mode, which reframes coaching answers for someone teaching a trainee rather than studying alone.

Free answers are counted per person: one signed out, three in total with a free account. The Competency Coach add-on removes the limit for $9 per month or $79 per year and is separate from Professional Pro.

Answers you get while signed out are not stored against a person.

Worked example

  1. A candidate rates measurement lowest on the BCBA task list checklist.
  2. They ask the coach why they keep confusing partial-interval and momentary time sampling.
  3. The coach explains the difference in plain language, points out which one over-estimates and which under-estimates duration, and asks them to say which they would pick for a short, high-rate behavior.
  4. They answer back in the same box and get their reasoning corrected on the spot.

Result: A studied concept and a self-test, instead of another re-read of the same chapter.

Related questions

Can AI help me study for the BCBA exam?
For explanation and self-testing, yes. Use it to have a concept explained differently, to check an explanation you wrote, and to rank what to study next. Do not treat anything it says as exam content or as an authoritative statement of certification requirements — confirm those with the BACB.
Is the AI coach free?
One answer free without an account, three in total with a free account. Unlimited coaching is the Competency Coach add-on at $9 per month or $79 per year.
Is the Competency Coach add-on the same as Professional Pro?
No. It is a separate add-on and can be bought on its own. Professional Pro covers the Passport, document reading and sharing features; the coach add-on only removes the coaching limit.
Will the coach write a behavior plan, treatment goals or session notes?
No. It is limited to study and preparation support and declines clinical writing. Behavior plans and treatment decisions belong to a qualified supervising behavior analyst.
Can a supervisor use the coach with a trainee?
Yes. In supervision mode the coach frames answers for someone teaching — what to model, what to ask the trainee, what to watch for — rather than for someone studying alone.
Are my questions stored?
Questions asked while signed out are not stored against a person. Signed-in usage is counted so the free allowance can be applied.
