This calculator performs arithmetic on the figures you enter. It does not determine compliance — confirm current requirements and how your hours qualify with the certifying body and your supervisor. Projections are estimates built from the pace you enter. Only supervision that actually happens and is recorded counts toward a monthly minimum.
The formula
Supervision percentage
- percentage = (supervision hours / service hours) x 100
- hours required = service hours x 0.05
- hours still owed = max(0, hours required - supervision hours)
Both numbers must cover the same calendar month and the same technician. Mixing a rolling four-week window with a calendar-month requirement is the most common source of a percentage that looks fine but is not.
Reading the result

Clearing 5% is not the whole requirement. The month also needs at least two supervision contacts and at least one observation with a client. A month can be percentage-compliant and still incomplete.
Projecting the rest of the month
Mid-month, the more useful figure is the projected requirement. Divide the service hours delivered so far by the days elapsed, multiply by the days in the month, then take 5%. That tells you how much supervision to schedule now rather than how much you already owe.

- Divide the supervision hours received in the calendar month by the hours of behavior-analytic services delivered in that same month, then multiply by 100. For 6 supervision hours against 120 service hours, the result is 5%.
- Is the 5% calculated per month or per year?
- Per calendar month. A strong month does not offset a short one, so each month has to stand on its own.
- Do group supervision hours count toward the percentage?
- Group supervision counts, but only up to a capped proportion of the total, and it cannot satisfy the requirement for observation with a client. Track the individual and group split separately.
