RBT supervision percentage calculator

How do I calculate RBT supervision percentage?

RBT supervision percentage is calculated per calendar month: divide the hours of supervision you received by the hours of behavior-analytic service you delivered that month, then multiply by 100. An RBT must receive supervision on at least 5% of the hours spent delivering behavior-analytic services each month, including at least two face-to-face contacts, one of which must include observation of the RBT working directly with a client.

This calculator performs arithmetic on the figures you enter. It does not determine compliance — confirm current requirements and how your hours qualify with the certifying body and your supervisor. Projections are estimates built from the pace you enter. Only supervision that actually happens and is recorded counts toward a monthly minimum.

How it is calculated

The percentage is assessed month by month, not averaged across a cycle. A strong month does not offset a short one.

Only hours spent delivering behavior-analytic services count in the denominator. Supervision received counts in the numerator.

The calculator also projects forward: enter the units or hours you typically bill in a day and it estimates the service hours you will finish the month with, then tells you how much supervision each remaining week needs.

supervision percentage = (supervision hours ÷ service hours) × 100

Worked example

  1. An RBT delivers 80 hours of direct service in March.
  2. The 5% minimum means 80 × 0.05 = 4.0 supervision hours are required for that month.
  3. The RBT logs 3.0 supervision hours.
  4. 3.0 ÷ 80 = 0.0375, which is 3.75%.

Result: 3.75% — 1.0 supervision hour short of the 5% minimum for March.

Related questions

What percentage of supervision does an RBT need?
At least 5% of the hours spent delivering behavior-analytic services in each calendar month, with a minimum of two face-to-face supervision contacts per month.
Is RBT supervision calculated monthly or yearly?
Monthly. The requirement is evaluated for each calendar month independently, so a shortfall in one month cannot be made up by extra supervision in another.
Do supervision hours count toward the service hours in the denominator?
No. The denominator is the hours spent delivering behavior-analytic services. Supervision received is the numerator.
How many supervision hours do I need for 100 service hours?
At 5%, 100 service hours require 5 hours of supervision in that same calendar month.
What counts as a supervision contact?
A contact occurs in real time between the supervisor and the RBT. At least two are required each month, and at least one must include observation of the RBT delivering services with a client.
What happens if I miss the 5% in a month?
Report it accurately and document it with your supervisor. Falsifying supervision records is a serious ethics violation; a missed month is a documentation and remediation matter.
